Spring 1981: David and artist/bandmate Julie Hair create the action installation Hunger, littering the Leo Castelli gallery staircase at 420 West Broadway with two hundred pounds of shrink wrapped bloody cow bones and stenciling the walls with images of an empty plate, fork, and knife, a bomber plane, burning house and recoiling figure.
