In 1983 David begins to show his work nationally. His work is included in 23 exhibitions in New York, Buffalo, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, and Greenville, South Carolina.

He has his first one-man show at Civilian Warfare. Allen Frame and Kirsten Bates adapt his “Sounds in the Distance” monologues for Turmoil Theater. He leaves the band 3 Teens Kill 4 to focus on his art.
