December 10, 1989: David attends “Stop the Church” protest, at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, New York. Bill Gerstel, who replaced David in 3TeensKill4, remembers seeing a masked David hurl himself at police barricades to allow the crowd to surge place (then running around the corner out of breath to avoid arrest as he had a performance that night). ACT UP, who organized the event, publicly calls out Cardinal O’Connor on his condemnation of homosexuality, condom distribution, abortion, and safe sex education in New York City public schools.
