May 11 1985: David gives up his apartment and takes a rancorous cross-country road trip with friends Steve Doughton and Philip Zimmerman thinking they’ll settle in the Southwest. After dumping them at a bus station somewhere in Texas in June, he calls out Keith Davis and they travel on to Oregon until he jettisons Keith as well in July. Richard Kern, his wife Amy, and Tommy Turner meet him in Memphis for a short jaunt to Washington DC.
