1984-85: David is included in photographer Neil Winokur’s “Totem Series.” Each piece in the series includes a photographic portrait and photos of objects chosen by each portrait’s subject. Artist Ken Tisa, for example, is accompanied by images of one of his paintings and three of his favorite objects. Museum curator Barbara Haskell is accompanied by images of a pen, a wedding ring, and a telephone.
Winokur’s ‘Totem” images of thirty-three-year-old David include a color portrait of him against a bright pink background gazing directly into the camera and three objects chosen by David: a map-covered sheep skull; an unpainted plaster turtle; and a human head with eye patch (from David’s “Metamorphosis” series).
