David Wojnarowicz Foundation Launch Announced

New York, NY – On the 30th anniversary of the death of David Wojnarowicz—artist, writer, and activist—The David Wojnarowicz Foundation has announced its launch.

Supporting the vitality of David’s work, his commitment to others, and his support of social justice, the Foundation begins its public conversation on the website wojfound.org, a dynamic exploration of David’s work and legacy.

The Foundation is chaired by Anita Vitale, a longtime friend of David and his partner Tom Rauffenbart, and executor of the Estate of David Wojnarowicz.

David was a treasured friend to me and so many others. His influence was substantial in his lifetime and has only grown in the years since his passing. I am pleased that we can continue to share the passion of David’s work and his principled activism.”

The online resources launched today will continue to grow to include, among other initiatives, a series of oral histories featuring David’s friends and contemporaries, scholars, artists, and activists who have explored and been inspired by David’s body of work, and interview material with David himself.

Initial programs and external support are being developed and will be announced in the months to come.

David Wojnarowicz (1954–1992) was an accomplished artist, writer, and activist.
