The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts collection includes David Wojnarowicz’s Dust Track I (Primary Title), 1990, a Gelatin silver print.
This work represents David’s fascination with patterns pressed into the dust underfoot made by things like tire tracks and boot-prints.
He first made these images for the catalog of his 1990 retrospective Tongues of Flame curated by Barry Blinderman at University Galleries, Illinois State University. Later, he overlaid them with his own text and articles taken from newspapers to create Gelatin Silver Prints in the dark room he inherited from his mentor Peter Hujar.
