The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and MoMA PS1 have supported David Wojnarowicz by including his work in almost 20 exhibitions since 1993.
The PS1 ClockTower Gallery included David as a fellow in two of its National and International Studio Program and Exhibition (1983-1984 and 1984-1985).
MoMA holds more than a dozen of David’s works in their collection, including paintings, photographs, films, and works on paper. This includes the entire 1987 four-part series of “Earth” paintings, Fire, Earth, Water, and Wind (for Peter Hujar), of which MoMA curators write: “Wojnarowicz used Surrealist techniques, such as dramatic disparities of scale, with a combination of image and text to create contemporary statements that are both fantastical and disturbing.”
