The Stedelijk Museum holds ITSOFOMO (In the Shadow of Forward Motion) in its collection.
ITSOFOMO, is a multimedia performance collaboration between David Wojnarowicz and composer/musician Ben Neill first performed at The Kitchen in New York City in 1989.
Integrating music, text, and video in a multi-dimensional format, the work embodies the act of acceleration and its sensory manifestations. It is through this frame that Wojnarowicz addressed the accelerating AIDS crisis and the politics of AIDS in the United States at that moment. ITSOFOMO is a fierce meditation on history and power, and has been performed in other venues by Ben Neil including at the Whitney Museum in 2018.
The Stedelijk Museum’s mission is to allow everyone can discover and experience modern and contemporary visual art and design 365 days a year.
