1972: David begins living largely on the streets of New York, sometimes staying at the Gay Activists Alliance (GAA) firehouse, at 99 Wooster Street in SoHo where he briefly meets German filmmaker Rosa von Praunheim. The GAA was founded in late 1969 “to secure basic human rights, dignity, and freedom for all gay people.” (The interior of the firehouse is destroyed by arson two years later and GAA evicted).
